NRail Information

50 Years of Modular Model Railroading, Promoting N Scale Standards,
Starting with NTRAK in 1973!

The purpose of NRail is to promote N Scale model railroading in all forms, all standards wherever N Scale is present. NRail has been the voice of N Scale model railroading for over 45 years. Starting as NTRAK, it created the first national modular standard, provided the vehicle for N Scale to grow to the second most popular scale in North America, was the birthplace of T-TRAK and today is the home of N Scale model railroading. We welcome all N scalers.

The NTRAK concept was popularized by Ben Davis in 1973 who led an exhibit at the 1973 MRIA show in Costa Mesa, CA. NTRAK’s first national exposure came at the 1974 National Model Railroad Convention held in San Diego, CA. He also helped found the Belmont Shore RR Club in Southern California (NTRAK defines a portable module standard for N-scale model railroads).
In 1977, Sun-N-Sand created the Mountain Division that was adopted as an NTRAK national standard and added a fourth main line.
